Free Respiration In Plants (Weekly Quiz: 1) Time:
Question-1
Which of the following processes make direct use of oxygen?
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-2
Which of the following conversions represents a reduction reaction?
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-3
Oxidative phosphorylation is
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (d)
Oxidative phosphorylation is the synthesis of energy rich ATP molecules with the help of energy liberated during oxidation of reduced co-enzymes (NADH, $FADH_2$) produced in respiration. The enzyme required for this synthesis is called ATP synthase. It is located in $F_1$ or head piece of $F_0 – F_1$ or elementary particles present in the inner mitochondrial membrane.$ F_{1}$ particle is capable of ATP synthesis. ATP synthase becomes active in ATP formation only when there is a proton gradient having higher concentration of $H^{+}$ or protons on the $F_0$ side as compared to $F_1$ side. This higher concentration creates an electric potential across the mitochondrial membrane. The proton gradient and membrane electric potential together form proton motive force (PMF). The flow of protons through the $F_0$ channel which induces $F_1$ particle to function as ATP synthase. The energy of the proton gradient is used in attaching a phosphate radicle to ADP by high-energy bond. This produces ATP.
Question-4
One of the following is common to glycolysis as well as Krebs cycle in eukaryotes :
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (b)
Substrate-level-phosphorylation means synthesis of ATP by utilizing energy released directly by the substrates. In glycolysis, there are two steps in which ATP is synthesized. In Krebs cycle, there is only one step where GTP is synthesized when succinyl CoA is converted to succinic acid.
Question-5
For bacteria to continue growing rapidly when they are shifted from an environment containing $O_2$ to an anaerobic environment, they must
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-6
Which of the following relation shows substrate level phosphorylation?
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-7
Kreb's cycle is also known as
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-8
Cytochrome oxidase contain
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-9
Which of the following is correct about glycolysis (EMP pathway)?
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-10
The overall goal of glycolysis, Kreb’s cycle and the electron transport system is the formation of
