Free Photosynthesis In Higher Plants (Weekly Quiz: 4) NEET Biology Questions & Answers with Detailed Explanation & Full Review
Free Photosynthesis In Higher Plants (Weekly Quiz: 4) Time:
Question-1
The reactions of Calvin cycle not directly dependent on light, but they usually do not occur at night. Why?
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (d)
Calvin cycle that take place in stroma of the chloroplasts during photosynthesis, is independent. But they usually do not occur in night because this cycle is dependent on the products of the light reactions. The Calvin cycle proceeds in three stages: carboxylation [$CO_{2}$ is covalently linked to a carbon skeleton (RuBP)], reduction (carbohydrate is formed at the expense of ATP and NADPH) and regeneration (the $CO_{2}$ acceptor RuBP reforms at the expense of ATP.
Question-2
Suspension of isolated thylakoids in culture medium containing $CO_{2}$ and $H_{2}$O does not produce hexose due to absence of
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-3
In photosynthesis, protons accumulate in the
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (c)
When electrons are transported through the electron transport system (ETS), the protons accumulate inside the thylakoid membranes. Lumen of thylakoid becomes enriched with H+ ion due to photolytic splitting of water.
Question-4
If you consider the combined processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, the electrons found in $H_{2}O$ at the beginning of the light reactions end up attaching to _______during respiration.
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-5
Kranz anatomy is one of the characteristics of the leaves of
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (b)
In kranz anatomy, the mesophyll is undifferentiated and its cells occur in concentric layers around vascular bundles. Vascular bundles are surrounded by large sized bundle sheath cells which are arranged in a wreath-like manner in one to several layers. $C_4$ plants, both monocots and dicots, such as sugarcane, maize, sorghum have kranz anatomy in leaf.
Question-6
The chief pigment associated with photosynthesis is
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-7
The core metal of chlorophyll is
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-8
In photosynthesis energy from light reaction to dark reaction is transferred in the form of
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (c)
Photosynthesis consists of light dependent phase and light independent phase or dark reaction. Light dependent phase occurs in grana fraction of chloroplast. It involves cyclic and non-cyclic photophosphorylation where assimilatory powers (ATP and $NADPH_2$) are produced. In dark reaction, which occurs in stroma fraction of chloroplast, actual reduction of CO2 to carbohydrates takes place using the assimilatory powers (ATP and $NADPH_2$) produced in the light dependent phase. It needs 18 ATP and 12 $NADPH_2$ molecules to produce one molecule of glucose.
Question-9
Photolysis of each water molecule in light reaction will yield
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-10
Which of the following is incorrect about cyclic photophosphorylation?
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
