Free Transport In Plants (Daily Quiz: 2) NEET Biology Questions & Answers with Detailed Explanation & Full Review
Free Transport In Plants (Daily Quiz: 2) Time:
Question-1
The given figure represents symplastic and apoplastic pathways of water & ion absorption & movement in roots. Few parts are marked as A, B, C & D. At the endodermis, water movement through the apoplast pathway is obstructed by which part (marked as A, B, C & D)?

(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (a)
In the given figure which shows the symplastic and apoplastic pathways of water and ion absorption and movement in roots, the structure marked as A, B, C and D are respectively xylem, casparian strip, phloem and cortex. Casparian strip (marked as B), impermeable substances made of suberin and sometimes lignin is a band of cell wall material deposited on the radial and transverse walls of the endodermis. It obstructs the water movement through the apoplastic pathway at the endodermis. It forces water through the endodermal cell and in such a way regulates the amount of water getting to the xylem.
Question-2
Which of the following is used as antitranspirant?
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-3
Identify A, B and C shown in this table:Property Simple Diffusion Facilitated Transport Active Transport Requires special membrane proteins A Yes Yes Highly selective No Yes Yes Transport Saturates No B Yes Uphill transport No No C Requires ATP energy No No Yes
Property | Simple Diffusion | Facilitated Transport | Active Transport |
Requires special membrane proteins | A | Yes | Yes |
Highly selective | No | Yes | Yes |
Transport Saturates | No | B | Yes |
Uphill transport | No | No | C |
Requires ATP energy | No | No | Yes |
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-4
Assertion:
Pure water has greatest water potential.
Reason:
Pure water contain maximum free water molecule.
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-5
The lower surface of leaf will have more number of stomata in a
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (b)
In a dorsiventral leaf, the number of stomata will be more on the lower surface. This feature enhances gas exchange between leaf surface and the atmosphere for the processes of photosynthesis and respiration. In isobilateral leaf, stomata are uniformly distributed on both surfaces.
