Loop of Henle is a U- shaped tube that consists of an ascending and descending limb. Its primary role is to concentrate the salts in the interstitium, the tissue surrounding the loop. Descending limb are thin walled and permeable to water but impermeable to salt and thus only indirectly contributes to the concentration of the interstitium. The ascending limbs are thick walled and impermeable to water.
