Free Ecosystem (Daily Quiz: 2) Time:
Question-1
Cause of mimicry is
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-2
Two food chains are given below.- Tree → aphid → insectivorous bird → prey feed on bird
- Phytoplankton → zooplankton → plankton feeding fish → carnivorous fish
Which diagram is a pyramid of energy representing both food chains?

(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (c)
A pyramid of energy which represents both the food chain. Pyramid of energy is a graphic representation of amount of energy trapped per unit time and area in different trophic levels of food chain with producers forming the base and top carnivores the tip. The energy content is expressed as Kcal/$m^{2}$/ yr. The pyramids of energy indicates not only the amount of energy flow at each level, but more importantly the actual role the various organisms play in the transfer of energy. In shape it is always upright, as in most of the cases there is always a gradual decrease in the energy content at successive trophic levels from the producers to various consumers.
Pyramid of energy (Kcal/$m^{2}$/yr) in any ecosystem (P = Producers; PC = primary consumers (herbivores); SC = secondary consumers (carnivores); TC = Tertiary consumers (carnivores)
Question-3
Which of the following include (s) ecosystem services ?- Purification of air and water by forests
- Forests mitigate droughts and flood
- Forests act as storehouse of carbon
- Forests influence hydrological cycle
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Answer: (d)
Healthy ecosystems provide a wide range of economic, environmental and aesthetic goods and services. Ecosystem services refer to the product of ecosystem processes. Forests maintain biodiversity and generate fertile soils.
Question-4
Consider the following statements.- In a terrestrial ecosystem, major producers are herbaceous and woody plants.
- In an aquatic ecosystems, species like phytoplankton, algae and higher plants are producers.
- Primary consumers are herbivores.
- Primary carnivores are secondary consumers.
Choose the option with correct statements.
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Question-5
How much of the net primary productivity of a terrestrial ecosystem is eaten and digested by herbivores?
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
